Section 8 – Maple Syrup and Honey

1. Anyone who wishes to become a member may do so by contacting the Treasurer of the Caledon Agricultural Society. Membership is $5.00. By the CAS constitution, all memberships must be paid by September 30 of the current year, and expire on December 31 of the current year.
2. Membership does not entitle anyone to a free pass.
3. All Exhibitors must pay a $5.00 fee. Current members may make any number of entries in any class.
4. Membership and competition, except where stated otherwise, is open to the world.
5. All entries must be printed on the entry form of CAS which is printed in the fair book.
6. Exhibitors are requested to make their entries early.
7. Livestock must be on the grounds and ready for judging at the time stated in the Livestock Section.
8. Ownership – All cattle must be the bona-fide property of the exhibitor at the time of entry to enable him/her to receive a prize, and all grain, roots, seed, fruit, flowers and dairy produce, must be the product of the exhibitor, the growth of the previous year, and the production of his/her farm or holding.
9. Livestock – Brood animals shown as such must either have their young by their side or show evidence of having suckled young during the present year.
10. Animals not ready for judging at the proper time will forfeit any right of competition.
11. Proper entry numbers of livestock must be clearly visible when being judged.
12. Cattle stalls are provided free of charge, cattle must be tied.
13. No exhibitor shall be allowed in the Heritage Hall while the judges are discharging their duties, and no Director shall wear a badge when exhibiting their own stock or goods.
14. Persons crossing the horse rings, cattle ring, or race track do so at their own risk.
15. All riding or driving on the grounds faster than a walk, unless on exhibition, is strictly prohibited. All riding is restricted to the trailer parking area, warm-up area or show ring.
16. Upon any discovery of any fraud, deception, or dishonest practise, either in preparation, of ownership, or any fraudulent cause, the Directors shall have the power to withhold payment of any or all premiums.
17. A protest must be in writing, and in the hands of the Secretary within 24 hours after the Fair. It must plainly state the cause of the complaint or appeal, and must be accompanied by a deposit of $25.00, which shall be forfeited to the Society if the protest is not sustained.
18. The judges shall make or cause to be made their entries in a clear and distinct manner, in all cases of doubt referring to the Secretary or Directors and, when their reports are completed, will sign the judging sheets and return them to the Convenor.
19. Any person who shall attempt to interfere with, or influence the judges while in discharge of their duties or shall, at any time on the premises of the Society use any contemptuous or abusive language to any judge in consequence of any award made to him/her, shall forfeit his/her right to any premiums to which he/she might otherwise be entitled, and shall be excluded from exhibiting for one year thereafter. Judges are particularly requested to immediately report any breach of this rule.
20. While the Directors will take every reasonable precaution to ensure the safety of the animals or articles exhibited, they wish it to be distinctly understood that owners themselves must take responsibility for the risk of exhibiting them and, should any animal or article be injured, lost, stolen, or strayed, the Directors will give every assistance in their power towards the recovery of the lost, stolen, or strayed article or animal, but will make no payment in whole or part value thereof. The Directors will take every reasonable precaution to prevent accidents, but will not hold themselves responsible for any accident on the Fairgrounds. Exhibitor will be solely responsible for any loss, injury, or damage done to, occasioned by, or arising from, any animal or articles exhibited by the exhibitor and shall indemnify the Society against all legal or other proceedings in regard thereto.
21. At 3: 30p.m on Sunday June 15, 2025, the public will be requested to leave the Heritage Hall, and Exhibitors will be allowed to remove their exhibits between 4 and 5:00p.m. Those items remaining become the property of the Society. People claiming entries must show exhibitor’s card.
22. Prizes forwarded by cheque, will be mailed no later than August 1, 2025. Please cash cheques prior to October 31 2025.
23. Special Notice – In case of bad or unfavourable weather, or other reasons causing the receipts to fall short of paying the expenses, a proportionate amount, exclusive of membership, will be deducted from such prizes, to enable the Directors to balance the accounts without loss. The Directors feel that this course is the most equitable and fair that can be adopted, as any deduction will fall proportionately on all those participating in the amounts on the Society and thus impair its usefulness.
24. All cattle, and calves must remain on the grounds until 4:00p.m. on the day of the show. Exhibitors failing to comply with this rule will forfeit all claims to prize money and premiums. Any earlier release time will be at the discretion of the Director in charge of the Livestock Shows.
25. Directors will not be responsible for articles left on the Fairgrounds.
26. All dogs must be leashed, unless in competition, or in a demonstration.
27. Any exhibitor who violates any of the Rules shall be liable to the forfeiture of all privileges and premiums, and be subject to such penalty as the Executive Committee may order.
28. To ensure everyone receives the prize money they are entitled to all exhibitors must complete the appropriate CAS entry form in full.
29. In cases of printing errors in this Prize List, the Directors shall have the power to rectify the same.

Please read these rules carefully as they apply to ALL SECTIONS. The theme for the 2026 Caledon Fair will be “Now and Then”.

1. To exhibit in any of the Exhibit Hall sections of Caledon Fair, each exhibitor must pay an Exhibitor Fee of $5.00. No fee is required for the Junior & Teen fair, 4H, or Group Displays. Juniors and Teens exhibiting in classes other than the youth classes must pay a fee of $5.00.
2. All articles must be NEW WORK no older than two (2) years, and made by and/or owned by the exhibitor.
3. Articles that look soiled or worn, or with any strong odour will be disqualified from competition.
4. Articles must NOT have been previously shown at Caledon Fair, but may be entered a second time as part of a collection only.
5. Articles can only be entered in one class and the exhibitor can enter only one item per class.
6. A 4^th prize will be awarded whenever there are 7 or more entries in a specific class. Monies awarded will be at the discretion of the specific convenors in proportion to the other prizes offered in the class.
7. Resident of Group Homes- Note: for ease of handling entries from group homes, the group home will be assigned ONE entry number. Each member of the group home is then assigned a code letter and the entry tags must show both the group home entry number and the code letter for the exhibitor, e.g. 301A, 301B, 301C… In this circumstance, one prize winning cheque will be issued to the home and it will be the responsibility of the home to distribute the prize monies.

9. ALL HALL EXHIBITS ARE TO REMAIN IN PLACE IN THE HALL UNTIL SUNDAY JUNE 21, 2026 AT 4:00PM EXCEPT FOR HOME BAKING ENTRIES WHICH MAY BE REMOVED BY THE EXHIBITOR OR THE RETAINED SPECIAL DONOR BETWEEN 3:30 AND 4:00 PM ON SATURDAY JUNE 20th. Baking exhibitors may donate their baking to the AUCTION at noon on Saturday, and we will donate proceeds of the Auction to Bethell Hospice and to the MS Society.
10. Prize books are available on our website at caledonfair.ca or upon request. Please call Glenda Simeone at 416-697-7792 for an emailed copy or a hard print copy.
11. All winning monies will be mailed out after the fair. Discovery of a fraudulent entry or practice will cause any winnings to be withheld by the Caledon Agricultural Society.
12. $5.00 from winnings of $25 or more will be held by Caledon Agricultural Society as a pre-payment for next year’s exhibitor fee. Prepaid members will not be charged for next year’s exhibitor fee at the fair.
13. High Point Awards- Points are allotted as follows” 1^st-4points, 2^nd-3points, 3^rd-2points, 4^th-1 point. Note: Retained specials do not count towards High Point Awards.
14. The Caledon Agricultural Society will take all reasonable precautions against loss or damage, but will not be held responsible for any loss or damage that may occur.
15. Judges reserve the right to subdivide classes if necessary.
16. No award will be made to mediocre exhibits, even though they may be the only ones entered in the class. In case of a tie, both entries will qualify for awards. Judge’s decision is final.

How to Exhibit at Caledon Fair

1. Ask and obtain a prize list or download from our website www.caledonfair.ca
2. Choose the classes that you want to enter. Tell your friends and family about the classes you have chosen to enter, it can be fun competing against your friends. Then everyone can see your entries and theirs in the Hall on fair days.
3. Read the rules for exhibiting, phone the convenor of the class if you have any questions. Prepare your entry. Call Susan Brown at 647-524-9245 and ask for an exhibitor number and entry tags. She will explain where to get them and how to fill them out.
4. Bring your entry sheet and tags with your entries to the Exhibits Hall at the fairgrounds on the Thursday before the fair, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm or on Friday from 8:00am to 11:00am. Judging begins at 1pm on Friday.
5. Come to the fair on Saturday to see what prizes you have won. You will need to claim your entries on Sunday afternoon between 4:00pm and 5:00pm. There is a Saturday pickup for baking only, 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
6. Your prize money will be mailed to you. Congratulations and thank you for exhibiting at Caledon Fair.

1. Health: Requirements for All Cattle Exhibited at Class “A” Fairs. Ontario is a Brucellosis-Free Region. There is no requirement for a negative brucellosis test with 60 days prior to entry into a show or exhibition. Any cattle other than those from a herd under quarantine are eligible to enter a show without restriction.
2. General Rules of Caledon Agricultural Society apply.
3. Membership Fee: All entrants must pay a $5.00 membership fee to the Caledon Agricultural Society. This will be taken off the prize money.
4. Fifteen percent (15%) of all prize money over $10.00 will be retained by the Caledon Agricultural Society as Entry Fees.
5. If any animal is taken from the grounds before specified times, the exhibitor of same may not be entitled to any prize which may have been awarded.
6. Sections will be judged in the order they appear in this section unless otherwise stipulated.
7. Caledon Agricultural Society will do its utmost to see that all safety precautions are met to protect the public and to safeguard the exhibits but it is up to the exhibitor to see that all animals are well trained, under full control and equipment is in a safe condition. EXHIBITORS OF LIVESTOCK MUST CARRY EITHER A LETTER FROM THEIR INSURANCE COMPANY OR A COPY OF THEIR INSURANCE POLICY WHICH MUST INCLUDE A POLICY NUMBER, AN EXPIRY DATE THAT MAKES THE POLICY VALID OVER THE WEEKEND OF THE FAIR, THAT COVERAGE IS AT LEAST $1,000,000 AND THAT YOU ARE COVERED FOR SHOWING YOUR ANIMALS AT FAIRS AND EXHIBITIONS. THIS PROOF MUST BE AVAILABLE AT THE ARRIVAL OF THE FAIR. IN THE EVENT THAT A COPY OF THE INSURANCE IS NOT AVAILABLE ANY PRIZE MONEY WILL BE HELD UNTIL SUCH TIME THAT ALL CONDITIONS ARE MET ALSO. CALEDON AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO PROHIBIT AN EXHIBITOR FROM SHOWING IF THE INSURANCE IS NOT PROVIDED

NOTE TO ENTRANTS

1. Caledon Agricultural Society will do its utmost to see that all safety precautions are met to protect the public and to safeguard the exhibits/exhibitors but it is up to the exhibitor to see that all animals are well trained, under full control and equipment is in a safe condition. EXHIBITORS OF LIVESTOCK/HORSES MUST CARRY EITHER A LETTER FROM THEIR INSURANCE COMPANY OR A COPY OF THEIR INSURANCE POLICY WHICH MUST INCLUDE A POLICY NUMBER, AN EXPIRY DATE THAT MAKES THE POLICY VALID OVER THE WEEKEND OF THE FAIR, THAT COVERAGE IS AT LEAST $1,000,000.00 AND THAT YOU ARE COVERED FOR SHOWING YOUR ANIMALS AT FAIRS AND EXHIBITIONS.  THIS PROOF MUST BE AVAILABLE AT THE ARRIVAL OF THE FAIR.  A COPY OF THE INSURANCE POLICY WILL NEED TO ACCOMPANY THE ENTRY FORM OR EVENT REGISTRATION.  IN THE EVENT THAT A COPY OF THE INSURANCE IS NOT PROVIDED CALEDON AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO PROHIBIT AN EXHIBITOR FROM SHOWING AND/OR PARTICIPATING WITH THEIR LIVESTOCK/HORSE IN ANY FAIR EVENT.
2. A copy of Insurance policy and/or letter must accompany all entrants’ entry form and will remain on file with the Caledon Agricultural Society. A $5.00 charge payable to the Caledon Agricultural Society will be levied for photocopying services for any entry form that is not accompanied by a copy of the insurance policy/letter.
3. All riders and drivers under 18 years of age must wear an ASTM approved equestrian helmet and equestrian footwear with a defined heel while riding/driving on the grounds.
4. Payment of Exhibitor fee and entry fees, and copies of entry forms are to be made by etransfer to Glenda Simeone (Show convenor) at simeone@hotmail.com no later than June 10, 2025. Classes may be added or changes may be made on the day with no additional fee. New entries on show day will be assessed a late fee of $25.
