What an incredible weekend we shared together at the 165th annual Caledon Fair! As the dust settles on our fairgrounds and we pack away another year of memories, our hearts are full of gratitude for every single person who made this celebration of agricultural heritage so special.
From Seed to Table: A Message That Resonated
This year’s theme, “Seed to Table,” couldn’t have been more timely or meaningful. During our opening ceremonies, our President Ed Taccone reminded us of a fundamental truth that resonates now more than ever:
“The soil beneath our feet holds more power than any political system ever created. From ancient Mesopotamia to modern-day Canada, strong nations have always been built on the foundation of a thriving agricultural sector.”
The pandemic years taught us valuable lessons about food security and the importance of local agriculture. When grocery shelves emptied in 2020, our farming community stepped up to remind us that food security isn’t just a policy discussion—it’s a kitchen table conversation that affects every Canadian family.
Celebrating Our Agricultural Heroes
Throughout this weekend, we witnessed firsthand the dedication of our farming community. From the Welsh Pony Show to the Beef demonstrations, from the Cheval Canadien displays to the Agricultural Awareness exhibits, every event reinforced three essential truths about our farmers: they care deeply for their animals, they are stewards of the land, and they produce safe, high-quality food for our tables.
Whether you’re a 4-H member showing livestock for the first time or a seasoned producer sharing your expertise, your story matters. Every conversation at our petting zoo, every question answered at the Agricultural Awareness Tent, and every demonstration given helps bridge the gap between farm and table.
A Community Effort Like No Other
The magic of this weekend wasn’t created by any single group—it was the result of our entire community coming together. The thunderous excitement of Saturday’s demolition derby, the precision of the truck and tractor pulls, the joy on children’s faces in the Inflatable Play Park, and the camaraderie in the Bavarian Gardens all combined to create something truly special.
Our deepest appreciation goes out to:
Our Incredible Volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, from setup to cleanup, ensuring every detail was perfect for our visitors.
Emergency Services and Safety Personnel including our local fire department and emergency medical services, who kept everyone safe while allowing us to focus on fun and celebration.
Exhibitors and Competitors who traveled from near and far to showcase their finest animals, crafts, and agricultural products, making our halls and rings come alive with competition and education.
Vendors and Food Service especially the Knox United Church Food Booth team who kept everyone well-fed throughout the weekend, and all our vendors who added to the festive marketplace atmosphere.
The Muir Band whose musical performances provided the perfect soundtrack to our weekend celebrations.
Our Generous Sponsors whose support makes events like these possible and ensures we can continue this 165-year tradition for future generations.
Looking Forward, Honoring the Past
As Ed Taccone reminded us in his opening remarks, “Next time you see a farmer’s field, remember: you’re looking at the bedrock of civilization itself.” This weekend proved that this bedrock remains as strong as ever in Caledon.
From the ancient practice of agriculture that began 12,000 years ago to the modern innovations showcased in our exhibits, we celebrated the continuous thread that connects seed to table, farmer to family, and tradition to tomorrow.
Thank You for Being Part of Our Story
To every family who brought their children to experience farm life, to every visitor who asked thoughtful questions about agriculture, to everyone who cheered at the demolition derby, enjoyed the horse shows, or simply soaked in the atmosphere of community celebration—thank you for being part of our story.
The Caledon Agricultural Society has been bringing this community together since 1860, and weekends like this remind us why this tradition remains so vital. You didn’t just attend our fair; you became part of the living history that connects us to our agricultural roots and ensures these traditions continue for generations.
Save the Date
Mark your calendars for next year’s Caledon Fair, where we’ll once again celebrate the connection between the land we love and the food that sustains us. Keep an eye on our website and social media for updates about other exciting events happening at our fairgrounds throughout the year.
Until we meet again on the fairgrounds, remember the farmers who work the fields you pass, support local agriculture, and carry forward the spirit of community that makes events like the Caledon Fair possible.
With heartfelt gratitude and Canadian pride,
Ed Taccone
